Vanessa Bird - General Manager

I started my career in travel way back in 1980 and from day one I knew it was the industry for me.  I’ve been with Owen’s Travelmaster since 1999.  My passion for travel seems to be unquenchable and I’ve been lucky enough to experience some fantastic destinations over the years.  As much as I love to travel and would quite happily spend most of my time doing so, needs must.  So what else would I do but spend my time ensuring that my clients travel requirements are handled with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail that I would give to my own travel plans.

Destination Expertise

Australia – Well worth the long journey, such a variety of holiday types and activities the possibilities are endless.

USA – New York, Washington DC, Florida, California, Las Vegas and the Canyons – from city breaks to fun, national parks to amazing beaches and sun – what to do first?

China – The Great Wall is a must, Terracotta Warriors and of course the Yangtze.

Canada – Toronto a friendly city on the shores of Lake Ontario with Niagara Falls nearby.

Sri Lanka – Beautiful Island, combine culture, sightseeing and relaxation it’s all here.

Egypt – Cairo and the Pyramids, Nile cruising, a country with so much history.

India – My absolute favourite destination (so far), do not get me started as I just will not want to stop!  From the southern tip of Kerala to cruising the backwaters on a houseboat, Tiger spotting in Ranthambore to the beautiful Lake Udaipur, the Taj Mahal where words fail me to the spiritual and moving Ganges at Varanasi.  The most incredible country I have ever visited

South Africa – With a plethora of safari options to choose from, there’s luxurious rail journeys and a self-drive or escorted tour along the Garden Route is one of the most spectacular journeys you will take.

Mediterranean:  I have holidayed quite a lot in the Med; I love the mountains and the Italian Lakes in particular.  From Lake Garda it is easy to visit Venice and Florence. From the flat southern shores to the mountainous northern towns there is such a contrast not to mention the delicious local wines! The Italian Island of Sicily is also one of my favourite places to holiday, with a stay in Taormina you will be spoilt by the amazing views, breath-taking for more than one reason!  For the energetic you can climb the still active volcano, Mount Etna.  If you would like a more laid back experience a stay in Cefalu will be perfect or consider Palermo for a city break.  A fly drive holiday in Sicily would be the best way to discover the Island, with quiet roads, plenty of history and spectacular scenery, what’s not to like?

CroatiaDubrovnik, the old city is a UNESCO listed site, a medieval walled city built between the 11th – 17th centuries. A fascinating city that retains so much character in the modern day you will be spoilt with the choices of cafes, restaurants and Gelato parlours. There are many ways to see the stunning country of Croatia; with an outstandingly beautiful coastline small cruises are a great way to discover some of the 1000 islands that hug the Adriatic shores.  Alternatively a fly drive will let you immerse yourselves in the deep forests and National Parks.  With regular flights from the UK you can easily fly into one airport and return from another.

Skiing is a firm favourite for me.  France, Italy and Austria love them all.

Karen Jones - Branch Manager

I have worked in travel for many years, the first part being in Germany selling to the Armed Forces in various locations.  On my return to the UK in 1998 I joined Owen’s.   During this time I have visited many countries including The Caribbean, Malaysia and The Mediterranean.

Destination Expertise:

Cruise: I thoroughly enjoy the concept of cruising and having cruised myself find planning itineraries a joy.

Malaysia: Whether a city break in Kuala Lumpur or a twin centre incorporating Langkawi this is a destination not be missed.

Azores: The beautiful islands all with a different feel, great for whale watching.

Mexico City: An amazing city steeped with culture and can be twinned with Cancun or Riviera Maya.

Thailand: A country so diverse in culture whether touring or multi-centre, there is something for everyone.

River and Ocean Cruising: Cruise the Rhine, Mosel maybe St Petersburg to Moscow or the Douro River, this is a must.

Holiday Expertise:

Canary Islands: A favourite winter destination of mine, having visited the four main islands many times now, I know them well and where to find the best hotels!

Caribbean: Having experienced many of these beautiful islands, I chose Jamaica for my own wedding.

Germany: Having lived there I’m more than happy to share my knowledge on city breaks especially Christmas Markets.

Since commencing my apprenticeship in travel as a school leaver I have continued to work extensively for local travel companies in Shropshire, I joined Owen’s in 2004 and it looks like I’m staying! My continuous service has enabled me to visit many fabulous holiday destinations including Sandals Jamaica, a place with overwhelming indulgence where dreams are truly met.

From arranging luxury holidays to UK breaks my work continues to inspire me.

Jamaica: Dunn’s River Falls is a must!

Madeira: The green island that is a garden lover’s dream!

New York: The city that never sleeps, so many attractions and landmarks to see, including The Empire State Building, Freedom Tower, Rockefeller Centre and Central Park, to name just a few!

Canary Islands: I enjoy the Canaries and have been to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote. Great for winter breaks!

Jersey: Being the largest of the Channel Islands and claims more sunshine hours than anywhere in Britain, it is still easy to explore even over a weekend.

Holiday Expertise:

Malta/Gozo: Malta – a sight-seers paradise, beautiful scenery, amazing architecture and so much history. Take a trip to the sleepier neighbour Gozo!

St Lucia: An exotic Caribbean Island, where I had my own wedding, amazing photo’s b between the twin peaks of Les Pitons, the island’s most famous landmark!

Balearics: Having holidayed at all of these, I would definitely recommend Minorca for a great family holiday!

In June 2019 I’m heading off on my next adventure to Kuala Lumpur and Dubai, more details to follow on my return.
